With summer coming to a close, the winds are shifting to focus on hairstyles for fall. The winds are blowing through those long, sun-streaked tresses and they are hitting the salon floor. Make way for short layered hairstyles for summer! Short hair dominated the last few years of the first millennium decade, but as expected, those Rapunzel and Lady Godiva like tresses made a swift return, along with their pretty girl stigma. Long and lovely layers replaced the short, spiky and sassy do’s that have become so popular. Even the celebrity ambassadors of the short look, betrayed the movement for extensions and weaves themselves. But just a few short weeks ago there was a tweet pic that was seen around the world. It could possibly, single handedly be responsible for kick-starting the short layered hairstyles movement all over again; and this girl can kick!
IT ALL STARTED WITH ONE SNIP PIC
GQ’s proclaimed Mistress of the Universe, Beyonce Knowles-Carter has been setting the country ablaze on her current world tour, The Miss Carter Show. Now unless you have been living under a rock, you would know that everything Beyonce does goes viral. While on a recent stop on her tour, she took to Twitter and posted a picture of her with a fresh blonde pixie-chic haircut, and it set the internet and blogosphere on fire. The only thing that is probably bigger than Beyonce is her hair. Her long, blonde, tresses are as integral to her persona as her voice and scintillating dance moves.
Bey debuted the look shortly after she had a mishap on stage, with one of her infamous wind machines. Unfortunately she was sitting too close to the fan, and her famous show hair got tangled in it. She made it out unscathed, but it seems that the incident inspired her to make a change. This was the result.
Soon after, she posted it, stylists and fans alike were buzzing and ready to chop it all off in a game of follow the leader. However, it seemed that Mrs. Carter was just giving us a playful tease with this look. Celebrity hair stylist Kim Kimble said “She had great, thick long hair, which she cut off because she’s ready to make a statement. It’s a great [one] to make: I’m beautiful, sexy, bold and I can do it all. She’s the perfect model for that.” This statement is one that many women will be ready to make with her because they feel the same way. But all is not lost. This may have been a “magic hair” adjustment because days later the star looked like this:
And the bobs have it! Revolution short hair is full effect!
Short n’ Chic
Although Beyonce’s bob is a new chapter in her hair book, the bob is a classic look that has been a mainstay in the hair world. Bey’s look has been before and pop rival Rihanna revitalized it and breathed new life with the look in 2007. This classic do is so versatile and interchangeable with each face so it is actually a new look every time. This particular short hair style always pops when it is layered and asymmetrically shaped with one side longer than the other.
The Inverted Bob
The inverted bob also called the wedge or stacked bob, is one of the most popular and versatile short layered hairstyles. The key to pull this short, layered look off is starting with a great cut. This style is very angular and precision is needed so that all the layers fall in place. The front is longer so that the sides frame the face, and the back is shorter. Victoria Beckham owned this style like no one else! Notice how color makes the look really unique.
Bob for Thin Hair
Some women may think that if they wear a short hair style that they will not have any volume to pull it off. Fear not ladies. The key to achieving a volume full look with a bob is to get it cut super short. It sounds scary, but it works. Bangs are natural filler, and a sleek cut with fringed edges compliments fine hair fabulously. And ladies always remember if you can’t grow it, sew it! Extensions are available in many different applications (clip-on’s, sew-in’s, and bonding/fusion) and are excellent and convenient for fuller looks.
Stand out by showing them that you are not an ordinary girl. You take chances and are not bounded by your hair, you are liberated from it, and it does not make you look strange, it makes you look even better! More women are taking risks and shaving their hair off and are embracing their true rock star diva. Take a look at R&B divas, Dawn Robinson and Kelly Price. One side of the hair is uber cropped; the crown, bangs and side are full and layered. When you put both halves together, you get one cool, complete look!
Original Funky Diva Dawn Robinson serves up this style well!
R&B Powerhouse Kelly Price holds it down with her version with volume, a little more length, curls and color.
